Project Description
The “Water is Energy 2024” project is designed to sustainably improve the living conditions of the population and address the extreme poverty caused by the cycle of water-borne diseases and the health costs associated with it. This initiative will directly impact the daily lives of 150 individuals, including 128 students and 22 staff members of CERSCOM, as well as approximately 300 local residents.
By constructing a solar-powered water system, the project will not only reduce the distance to clean water (currently a 20-minute walk) but also contribute to better health and educational outcomes for children with special needs at CERSCOM. The initiative promotes environmental sustainability, which is crucial for the long-term development of the region.
Project Objectives
- To improve the quality of life and educational opportunities for children with special needs at CERSCOM by providing a sustainable water solution.
- To reduce water-borne diseases and related health expenses in the community through the use of clean, renewable energy.
- To facilitate knowledge exchange by involving local technical students, who will gain hands-on experience during the installation of the solar-powered water pump as part of their internship.
Key Activities
- Geophysical survey and drilling operations for water well construction.
- Delivery and installation of a solar-powered water pump.
- Construction of fencing (skilled workforce experienced in fence building and installation).
- Implementation of media and digital coverage, led by ASEBE and CERSCOM, to raise awareness of environmental issues in the community.
- Outreach activities, including sensitization campaigns on environmental protection and the benefits of clean energy.
- Capacity building for the Water Committee on ecological sustainability and policy development for the agricultural sector.
